Saturday's Activities

The first full day of the Railroading Merit Badge weekend begins with the scouts boarding our vintage railroad coaches right at their campgrounds after they have finished breakfast. The trip to our railroad yard and shop area is only 8 tenths of a mile.

We utilize our property, buildings and equipment to host a variety of activities that challenge the scouts both mentally and physically during the day. The goal of these activities is to provide an opportunity for the scout to acquire the skills required by the Boy Scouts of America Railroading Merit Badge Book in order for the scout to earn the Railroading Merit Badge.

Stations

14 activities have been set up in what we refer to as "stations". Each station is led by volunteers of the Whitewater Valley Railroad or scout leaders. The scouts are divided into 14 equally numbered groups. Each group will begin the day at a different station. Each group will stay at that station for about 20 minutes before moving onto the next station. Each station has a number in addition to a station name. The numbers help keep the scouts moving in the proper direction.

Links

The links to the left describe each station and what the scout should expect to learn while at that station. Note that the order of the stations does change from year to year depending on a variety of factors.

In addition, there may be extra activities that the scouts may elect to engage in. Please take a look at those as well.

Back to camp...

After the scouts conclude their visit to each station, they will get back on the train and be returned to the campgrounds. The scouts will have dinner and activities planned by the scout leaders for Saturday evening.
